We all know the usual go to's for this one (Days of Heaven, Conformist, Assassination of Jesse James, etc.), but be creative. And more importantly, why?

I say Barry Lyndon. Not for the stupid F.7 candlelight stuff, for the insane, studied and posed composition and lighting choices. I guess the opposite end of the spectrum, total freedom and improvisation of the camera, with a wild yet largely naturalistic lighting would have to be Diving Bell and Butterfly. While in the former, every frame breathes with a cynicism and cold outlook for humanity as small, barbaric animals, the latter has all the fleeting beauty of youth and life and vigour. I really like them both because they kinda remind me how far things have already been pushed in either direction.
