News: NAB 2010 - Panasonic 3D VariZoom for the AG-3DA1
Adjust the convergence while your 3D camera is on a boom. Then watch on a Panasonic Bt-3DL2550 - 3D monitor to see if your convergence is correct. Panasonic introduced the new BT-3DL2550, a 25.5-inch 3D LCD production monitor with full 1920 x 1200 resolution. The BT-3DL2550 provides 3D display with true-to-life color in a durable, production-tough LCD panel package. Use special glasses to view the display in 3D, great for setting up shots while on the set.NAB 20210NA

News: ASC DP shoots on 5D, looks like crap
For as much as Shane Hurlbut ASC's name is ostensibly everywhere right now for all the wrong reasons (re: Christian Bale, 5D challenge, etc.), as a cinematographer I think he's extremely talented. The photography and camera work in "The Greatest Game Every Played" are very underrated and the futuristic look he gave to "Terminator Salvation" is both stunning and unique.

Hammock - Breathturn (DP: Larkin Seiple)
I hesitate to even post screengrabs from this piece. The storytelling by this creative team (dir. David Altobelli & DP Larkin Seiple) is so perfect that taking stills out of context doesn't do it justice. At first, I was disappointed that the automatic thumbnail Vimeo chose was so nondescript but ultimately it's for the best. Here's just a tease:

News: DSLR to Film Comparison
So watching this I think what is so interesting is not what film does better, but what the differences are between the DSLRs. Give me Kodak indoors and Fuji outdoors any day, but the 5D really does shine, it becomes hard to see why you should shell out for a RED, or most Sony products especially for a anything without guaranteed theatrical release. Documentary I believe remains a whole different question and workflow is still a headache but when the name of the game is make this beautiful ...
News: The Role of a Gaffer
Both on and off the set, the Gaffer or Chief Lighting Technician is one of the most important positions around. Though the average movie goer most likely has no idea the job even exists, they probably don't know what 99% of the other crew is/does either.

Cinematographer Anna Foerster shot tests for Roland Emmerich's new period film "Anonymous". It's nice to actually see a test shot by a legit DP under controlled circumstances.
News: The Director and DP collaboration
When one looks at the history of cinema, says The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, the director-cinematographer dynamic is the key relationship, “as much as the director and the lead actor.” It’s the defining factor, he says, not only for how a film looks but “how it will be perceived as having been directed.”
